Butter While many rum ball recipes use sweetened condensed Milk as a binder and to add sweetness, other ingredients are used in some variations, such as corn syrup or butter.

Butter instead of sweetened Milk condensed in rum balls gives the balls a creamier, richer texture with a more pungent buttery taste.

The recipes vary by region and even from family to family. The two ingredients are the only thing required for all rum balls to be chocolate and rum.

Rum – This ingredient makes these gumballs unique and perfect for holidays. If you don’t like rum, you can substitute bourbon.

Which rum can you use? Three words: Whatever you like. There are many types of rum: dark rums, spiced, white, gold, coconut, etc. Budget and taste are the main factors. Remember that the gumballs you make will taste like rum.

Rum flavor or rum?

Select what you like. Use rum if you want a boozy treat or bourbon if you’re not a fan. Rum extraction makes a great dessert recipe for people who don’t drink alcohol or kids.

Cocoa Powder I use unsweetened natural cocoa powder or Dutch-processed Cocoa powder. The Dutch-processed Cocoa Powder has a dark, rich flavor that I like.

Heavy cream – This ingredient will bring together the rum ball mixture when we bring it to a boil, along with sugar, butter, and cocoa powder. This ingredient also adds moisture to the cookies.

Pecans or walnuts – Pick what suits your budget and taste. They both work well in this recipe. To enhance the flavor, toasting them beforehand is a great idea.

Dried Fruitsthese can be added but are not required. They add a nice texture and touch.

Optional ingredient: I add a pitted cherry to the rum balls, usually preserved in sugar syrup. A walnut or almond is another excellent addition.

The rum ball can be coated in any of the following ways:

Granulated sugar

Use as much of each topping as you like to make your rum balls look festive and beautiful on the plate.

You may need to reroll rum balls using cocoa or powdered sugar. They tend to absorb moisture as they sit in the refrigerator.

Preheat the oven to 350F/180C and roast the nuts

Roast the walnuts for 8 minutes until they are fragrant and light brown. This can be done in a pan for a few moments to develop the flavor.

Allow the nuts to cool. Then, chop them finely with a knife or in a food processing machine. Could you place them in a big bowl?

Grind the cookies (Graham Crackers) in a food processor until they are fine crumbs.

Add the cookie crumbs and nuts together.

If you don’t have a food processor, put them in a plastic bag and crush them with a rolling pin or a glass bottle.

Make the binding syrup

Bring butter, heavy cream, and powdered cocoa to a boil in a small saucepan. Do NOT simmer.
